Michelle Carpenter

Board of Directors

Michelle has devoted herself to a daily prayer practice since a young age, where she spends 2-3 hours alone praying for the people on her list. At twelve years old, even though she did not consider herself a reader, she picked up A Voice in the Wilderness one summer and could not put it down. She was stirred to the depths of her being, embraced the message fully and wanted to follow it with all of her heart.  It was around the age of 13 that she began waiting on the Lord and spending time in prayer. Michelle received a BA in Biblical Studies from Asbury University. She is so thankful for her husband, Stephen, of 20 years, who has been incredibly supportive in her “habit of prayer.” In the last several years, she has partnered with FOCUS Ministries, a local non-profit ministry to men and women behind and beyond the walls of east Tennessee’s prisons and jails, made up largely of volunteers who donate their time to minister, teach, preach and mentor inmates and former inmates. She teaches faith-based life skills classes to female inmates. She also ministers through preaching and worship services on Sunday nights in the prisons where her favorite thing to share is testimonies of when an impossible situation is met by an “all-things-are-possible” God!

James doss

Board of Directors

James Doss has a heart hungry for the spoken and written word of God. There is a compulsion within him that drives him to mine the depths of the mysteries of God. His family has been connected with Rev. Loran Helm for three generations. His parents and grandparents modeled a desire to walk out the heart of what is found within the pages of A Voice in the Wilderness. Growing up, he was a member of Scott Depot Christ Fellowship in West Virginia and, since then, has been a vital part of Travelers Rest Christ Fellowship in South Carolina where he now serves as Interim Pastor. He holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University of South Carolina Upstate, and an MBA from North Greenville University. He desires above all things to draw closer to God and to know Him more.
